Free Parking at New Jersey Parking Meters for Disabled Veterans and Purple Heart Recipients

New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC), with parking enforced by municipalities
Free parking at municipal meters for up to 24 hours

You can park free at municipal parking meters for up to 24 hours with a New Jersey Disabled Veteran or Purple Heart recipient placard. The vehicle has to be owned by you, you have to be in it, and the placard has to be displayed.

How to apply

Submit the Application for Disabled Veterans and Purple Heart Recipient Placard with proof of eligibility at any Motor Vehicle Commission office, or mail a photocopy of your proof of eligibility with the completed application to New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, Special Plates Unit, P.O. Box 015, Trenton, NJ 08666-015.

What you'll need

The completed placard application and the proof of eligibility listed on it, which is your VA disability documentation or your Purple Heart award documentation.

Eligibility

  • You are a disabled veteran or a Purple Heart recipient
  • You own the vehicle
  • You are in the vehicle when it is parked
  • You display the Disabled Veteran or Purple Heart placard
