Grace Period for a Georgia Driver’s License That Expired During Active Duty

If your Georgia driver’s license expired while you were on active duty outside the state, you can drive in Georgia on it for six months after you are discharged or reassigned back, and you cannot be cited for driving on the expired license.

How to apply

Nothing to file up front. If you are cited, bring your official military orders or a written verification signed by your commanding officer to a DDS Customer Service Center and a waiver will be issued.

Eligibility

  • Your Georgia driver’s license expired while you were serving on active duty outside Georgia
  • You are within six months of your discharge or reassignment back into Georgia
