Veterans’ Hiring Preference by Private Employers

Private employers, under Georgia Code 34-1-8
Preference in hiring, promotion, or retention where an employer adopts a policy

Georgia law lets a private employer prefer honorably discharged veterans who served on active duty when hiring, promoting, or deciding who to keep during a reduction in force. The employer’s policy has to be in writing and applied consistently. It is an option for employers, not a requirement.
