Skilled nursing home care for wartime veterans

Georgia runs two skilled nursing homes for wartime veterans, in Augusta (130 beds) and Milledgeville (248 beds). The Augusta facility also serves as a teaching facility for medical students.

Contact the veterans home directly, or work through a Georgia Department of Veterans Service Field Service Office, and submit the Application for Admission packet.

What you'll need

Your DD214, proof of Georgia residency for the required period, and VA approval for skilled nursing care.

Eligibility

  • You are a Georgia resident who lived in Georgia for the two years immediately before applying, or for five or more of the past 15 years
  • You served on active duty during World War II, Korea, the Cold War, Vietnam, or the Persian Gulf period from August 2, 1990 onward
  • You received a discharge under other than dishonorable conditions
  • The VA has approved you for skilled nursing care
  • You do not have a contagious infectious disease or behavioral or psychiatric problems, and do not need to be sustained by line-operated mechanical means
