Besides the state cemetery in Kaneohe, Hawaii has seven county veterans cemeteries for veterans and their eligible family members: East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. I in Hilo (closed to new burials) and No. II in Hilo, West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona, Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe, Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao, Molokai Veterans Cemetery in Hoolehua, and Lanai Veterans Cemetery in Lanai City.

How to apply

Contact the cemetery directly: Hawaii County cemeteries 808-961-8311, Kauai 808-369-3535, Maui 808-876-4534, Molokai 808-553-3222, Lanai 808-565-7086. Your funeral director can make the arrangements for you.

What you'll need

The veteran’s discharge document showing the character of discharge, such as a DD214, and the death certificate. Ask the individual cemetery what else it requires.

Eligibility

  • You are a veteran or the eligible family member of one
  • You are being buried at one of the seven Hawaii county veterans cemeteries
