Hawaii offers 10 distinctive plates: Gold Star Family, Veteran, Combat Veteran, Combat Wounded (Purple Heart), Pearl Harbor Survivor, Former POW, World War II Veteran, Korean War Veteran, Vietnam Veteran and Persian Gulf Veteran. They cost the same as a standard Hawaii plate and can go on noncommercial passenger vehicles, motorcycles and motor scooters.
Apply at your local county motor vehicle office with proof that you qualify for the plate you want. Each county runs its own specialty plate process: Honolulu, Hawaii, Kauai and Maui all publish separate instructions.
Proof of eligibility for the specific plate, which is normally your DD214, your military ID, or award documentation for a Purple Heart, POW or campaign plate.
