As a Hawaii state employee you can take up to 26 weeks of unpaid leave in a single 12-month period to care for a spouse, child, parent or next of kin who has a serious illness or injury they got in the line of duty on active duty.
Request military caregiver leave through your agency’s human resources office and provide medical certification of your relative’s condition.
Medical certification of the serious illness or injury, documentation that it was incurred in the line of duty on active duty, and proof of your relationship to the service member.
