Idaho Gold Star Family License Plate

Idaho Transportation Department, after verification by the Idaho Division of Veterans Services
Up to two sets of plates, free for the surviving spouse and parents

Immediate family members of a service member who died while serving on active duty can get Idaho Gold Star Family license plates, up to two sets per family. The plates are free for the surviving spouse and the parents; other family members pay the initial and renewal fees. Immediate family means a surviving spouse, parent, stepparent or legal guardian, child or stepchild, sibling, half sibling or stepsibling, and grandparent.

How to apply

First send the Idaho Division of Veterans Services Gold Star License Plate Verification, with a DD1300 or death certificate and documentation of your family relationship, to IDVS at 351 Collins Road, Boise, ID 83702-4519 or call 208-780-1300. Once IDVS verifies you, submit the Idaho Transportation Department Military Specialty Plates application together with the verification to the Idaho Transportation Department.

What you'll need

A DD1300 report of casualty or the death certificate, official documentation proving your family relationship to the service member, and the completed IDVS Gold Star License Plate Verification.

Eligibility

  • You are the surviving spouse, parent, stepparent, legal guardian, child, stepchild, sibling, half sibling, stepsibling or grandparent of a service member who died while serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You have been verified by the Idaho Division of Veterans Services
