Idaho grants residency for tuition purposes to eligible service members, veterans and their family members, so you pay in-state rates at Idaho public institutions.

How to apply

Apply for residency for tuition purposes through the registrar at the Idaho public institution you are attending, and provide your service documentation.

What you'll need

Your orders or DD214, proof of your Idaho home of record or state of residence while serving, and proof of your relationship to the service member if you are a dependent.

Eligibility

  • You are a service member who entered the U.S. Armed Forces as an Idaho resident and has kept that residency while stationed outside Idaho, a nonresident service member stationed in Idaho, an Idaho National Guard service member, a dependent of any of these, or a service member who separated under honorable conditions after at least two years of service and enters an Idaho public institution within one year of separation
  • If you qualify through separation, you designated Idaho as your intended state of residence at separation, listed Idaho as your state of residence while serving, or move to Idaho and establish residence within one year of registering at an Idaho public institution
