Illinois Deceased, Disabled, MIA or POW Veterans' Dependents Educational Opportunity Grant

Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA)
$250 per year

Illinois pays $250 a year toward school costs for the children of certain veterans, aged 10 through 18. You can use it at a state elementary school, middle school, high school, home school or vocational school.

What you'll need

The veteran’s discharge paperwork and VA rating or casualty documentation, proof of the veteran’s Illinois residency, and proof of your relationship to the veteran.

Eligibility

  • You are the natural child, stepchild, adopted child or court appointed foster child of at least two years of the veteran
  • You are between the ages of 10 and 18
  • The veteran was an Illinois resident when they entered active duty, within six months after entering active duty, or for at least 15 consecutive years after leaving active duty
  • The veteran was declared a prisoner of war or missing in action, has a 100 percent total and permanent service-connected disability rating from the VA, is compensated at the 100 percent rate for unemployability, or died from a service-connected cause
