Illinois Emergency Medical Technician Licensing for Military Trained Service Members

EMT license issued on the basis of military training, after passing an approved exam

If you have military emergency medical training, the Illinois Department of Public Health will review your training and experience against its licensing standards. If you meet them, the department offers you an approved EMT exam and issues an EMT license when you pass. You have to file the application within one year after your military discharge.

Your DD214 showing an honorable discharge, and your military training records and certifications for emergency medical work.

  • You received an honorable discharge
  • You have military emergency medical training and experience
  • You file your application with the Illinois Department of Public Health within one year after your discharge
  • You pass an Illinois Department of Public Health approved EMT exam
