Illinois National Guard Grant Program

Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC)
Tuition and certain fees paid for up to four or six academic years, by length of Guard service

Serving in the Illinois National Guard pays your tuition and certain fees, covering registration, graduation, general activity, matriculation and term fees, for undergraduate or graduate study at an Illinois public two-year or four-year college. With less than 10 years of Guard service you can use the grant for up to the equivalent of four academic years of full-time enrollment; with 10 years or more it goes up to the equivalent of six academic years.

How to apply

Apply online through the Illinois Student Assistance Commission ING interactive application. New users create a profile in the ISAC Student Portal first. To ask questions or request a paper application, contact an ISAC Student Engagement Representative.

What you'll need

Proof that you are currently serving in the Illinois National Guard and have completed one full year of service, and your school enrollment information.

Eligibility

  • You are currently serving in the Illinois National Guard, or you served at least five consecutive years in the Illinois National Guard and your education was interrupted by a call to federal active duty of at least six months
  • You have completed one full year of service in the Illinois National Guard
  • You are enrolled at an Illinois public two-year or four-year college
  • You are not in default on a student loan and do not owe a refund on a state or federal grant
  • You maintain satisfactory academic progress as determined by your school
