Illinois Regional Transportation Authority Military Service Fare Program

Free or reduced fares on Chicago area transit

Transit agencies in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties offer free or reduced fares to eligible service members and veterans on fixed-route service run by the Chicago Transit Authority, Metra and Pace Suburban Bus. Metra gives active duty service members reduced fares on one-way and 10-ride tickets bought from a ticket agent or on board, though not on monthly tickets. Pace lets active duty service members in uniform ride free; see the bus operator. Each provider sets its own eligibility rules.

How to apply

Contact the transit provider you use. For Metra, show your active duty military ID when you buy a one-way or 10-ride reduced fare ticket. For Pace, see the bus operator while in uniform. RTA customer service is 312-913-3110, Metra is 312-696-3872, and Pace is 847-364-7223 extension 3.
