Partial, short-term wage replacement

You can claim temporary income if you lose your job through no fault of your own. It replaces part of your lost wages while you look for other work, is not based on financial need, and is paid for entirely by employers.

File a claim online through the Illinois Department of Employment Security claim page, or call 800-244-5631. Limited in-person help is available at IDES workforce offices by appointment.

What you'll need

Your Social Security number and your name as it appears on your Social Security card, your driver license or state ID information, the names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers of a spouse and dependent children if you include them, the name, mailing address, phone number, employment dates and reason for separation for every employer in the last 18 months, your gross wages since Sunday of the current week, pension payment information other than Social Security, Alien Registration information if you are not a U.S. citizen, your DD214 or DD215 if you recently separated from the military, and SF8 and SF50 forms if you recently left federal employment.

Eligibility

  • You are unemployed through no fault of your own
  • You were paid $1,600 or more in wages for insured work during your base period
  • You were paid at least $440 of base period wages outside the calendar quarter in which your wages were highest
  • You are registered for work with the Illinois Department of Employment Security
