Apply online through the Illinois Student Assistance Commission Student Portal and choose the Apply Here tab for the Illinois Veterans’ Grant. For help, contact an Illinois Veteran Service Office, your college financial aid office, or the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing your service dates and honorable discharge, and proof of your Illinois residency before you entered the service or after your discharge.

Eligibility

You were an Illinois resident six months before entering the U.S. Armed Forces, or you have been an Illinois resident for at least 15 years since your discharge from active duty
You served one full year of active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, or you served on active duty assigned in a foreign country at a time of hostilities regardless of how long you served
You received an honorable discharge
You returned to Illinois within six months after your discharge from active duty
