Indiana counties pay a $1,000 burial allowance to the next of kin of an honorably discharged veteran, or of the veteran’s spouse or surviving spouse, to help offset burial expenses.
Contact the county auditor where the burial takes place; this is paid by the county, not the state.
The veteran’s DD214 showing an honorable discharge, the death certificate, proof that you are the next of kin, and a marriage certificate if you are claiming for a spouse.
