Hurt, ill, disabled or killed in the line of duty with the Indiana National Guard, you keep the pay and allowances you were entitled to while on duty and the state covers your medical care. If you die of the injury or illness, your beneficiaries get a state pension and $8,800 toward funeral expenses.

How to apply

Report the injury or illness through your chain of command and file for a line of duty determination. Beneficiaries should contact the Indiana National Guard and IDVA to claim the pension and funeral expenses.

What you'll need

Your duty orders, a line of duty determination, and your medical records. For a death claim, the death certificate and proof of your relationship to the service member.

Eligibility

  • You are an Indiana National Guard service member, or the beneficiary of one
  • You were injured, became ill, became disabled or died in the line of duty
