If you are the nonresident spouse of a service member, you do not pay Indiana income tax on wages you earn in Indiana. You may still have to file an income tax return in your own state of residence.

What you'll need

The service member's orders assigning them to Indiana, proof that you and the service member are residents of the same state other than Indiana, and your Indiana wage statements.

Eligibility

  • You are the spouse of a service member and you are not an Indiana resident
  • You and the service member are residents of the same state other than Indiana
  • The service member is in Indiana in compliance with military orders
  • You are in Indiana only to be with the service member and you live in the same residence, or you and the service member live together in another state and you work in Indiana
  • You earned wages in Indiana
