Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery

No cost for the plot, grave opening and closing, outer burial container, marker and chapel use

The state cemetery in Madison offers casketed burials, cremated remains burials, columbarium niches and a scatter garden for veterans and their eligible family members. There is no cost to the family for the burial plot, opening and closing the grave, the outer burial container, the grave marker or use of the chapel.

How to apply

Complete the VA Application for Pre-need Determination (VA Form 40-10007) to establish eligibility before there is a need, then use the cemetery burial application at the time of need. Email ivmc@dva.in.gov or call 812-273-9220. The cemetery is at 1415 North Gate Road, Madison IN 47250, fax 812-273-9221.

What you'll need

The veteran’s DD214 or other discharge paperwork, and a marriage certificate or dependent documentation for family members.

Eligibility

  • You were discharged from active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces under conditions other than dishonorable, died while serving on active duty, served at least 20 years in the National Guard or Reserves and are eligible for military retired pay or would have been but for death before age 60, or were a reserve component member activated for federal service
  • You are the veteran, the spouse of a veteran, or an unmarried child of a veteran who is under 21, under 23 and a full-time student at an approved school, or developed a lifelong disability before age 21
