Indiana Voluntary Veterans' Hiring Preference Policy for Private Employers

Private employers in Indiana, authorised under state law
Employers may lawfully prefer veterans in hiring, promotion and retention

Indiana law lets a private employer adopt a policy that prefers honorably discharged veterans in hiring, promotion and retention during a reduction in force. The policy has to be in writing and applied the same way to all employees.

What you'll need

Your DD214, if the employer asks for proof of service.

Eligibility

  • You received an honorable discharge
  • You are applying to, or employed by, an Indiana private employer that has adopted a written veterans preference policy
