Iowa Injured Veterans Grant Program

Up to $10,000

You can get up to $10,000 so your family can be with you while you recover from a combat-related injury. The grant stays available after you are discharged for as long as you keep receiving medical treatment or rehabilitation for that injury or illness.

Mail the Injured Veteran Grant application to the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs, 7105 NW 70th Avenue, Camp Dodge, Building 3465, Johnston, IA 50131-1824. For help, call 800-838-4692 or 515-727-3440.

What you'll need

Documentation of your combat-related injury, your medical evacuation or hospitalization records, a line of duty determination, and your discharge paperwork if you have separated.

Eligibility

  • You are an Iowa resident who is or was serving in an active or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces at any time after September 11, 2001, or you are a nonresident Iowa National Guard member who served on active duty at any time after September 11, 2001
  • If you have been discharged or released, it was under honorable conditions
  • You received a combat-related injury in the line of duty in a combat zone or hostile fire zone
  • Your injury was serious enough to require medical evacuation from the combat zone to a military hospital, or at least 30 consecutive days of hospitalization at a military hospital
