Iowa State Employment Veteran Hiring Preference

Iowa Department of Administrative Services, and the hiring state agency, county, city or school district
5 percentage points added to a passing examination score, or 10 for a disabled or Purple Heart veteran

Iowa adds five percentage points to your passing examination score when you apply for a job with a state department, county government, city government or school district. Five more points are added if you have a service-connected disability, receive compensation, disability benefits or a pension from the VA, or received the Purple Heart. The points are added to your final score and used to rank applicants for interview selection. The preference does not apply to promotions or to appointing a police or fire chief.
