Honorably discharged veterans can get this plate. One numbered set is free, additional sets cost $25, and you pay a $5 annual validation fee plus your annual registration renewal fee. A personalized set costs $25, additional personalized sets cost $50, with the same fees.

How to apply

Mail the Special Plate Application G-9 with your documentation and any fees to the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs, 7105 NW 70th Avenue, Building 3465, Johnston, IA 50131.

What you'll need

A copy of your DD214, or other documentation such as a WD AGO Form 53-55 approved by the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs, showing your service dates and a discharge under honorable conditions.

Eligibility

You are an Iowa vehicle owner
You served in the U.S. Armed Forces and were discharged under honorable conditions
If you served in the National Guard or Reserves, you served at least 90 days on active duty other than for training, or you have 20 years of service and are eligible for military retired pay at age 60
