Tuition and required fees waived for the equivalent of 10 semesters of undergraduate instruction

Kansas public colleges and universities waive tuition and required fees for former prisoners of war and for the family of a service member or veteran who was killed or seriously disabled. The waiver covers the equivalent of 10 semesters of undergraduate study at Kansas state universities, public community colleges, public technical colleges and Washburn University.

What you'll need

The veteran's discharge paperwork and VA rating documentation, prisoner of war documentation if you are claiming on that basis, casualty documentation if the service member died in the line of duty, and proof of your relationship to the veteran.

Eligibility

  • You are enrolled at a Kansas state university, public community college, public technical college or Washburn University
  • You are a former prisoner of war who was declared a prisoner after January 1, 1960, or you are the spouse, unremarried surviving spouse or dependent child of a Kansas resident service member or veteran who died in the line of duty on state or federal active duty on or after September 11, 2001, who has a service-connected disability rating of 80 percent or more, or who was injured or disabled on state or federal active duty on or after September 11, 2001 to the extent they could no longer perform the duties of their duty position or any position at or above their pay grade
  • You have not already used the equivalent of 10 semesters of undergraduate instruction under this waiver
