You get an extra 180 days after your deployment to file your Kansas return, pay what you owe, claim a refund or take other tax actions. Kansas follows the IRS rules for deployed service members.

There is nothing to file in advance. File your return within 180 days after your deployment and note your deployment when you file. Contact the Kansas Department of Revenue if you receive a notice while deployed.

What you'll need

Your deployment orders or Leave and Earnings Statements showing the deployment dates.

Eligibility

  • You are a Kansas resident filing a Kansas income tax return
  • You are or were deployed as a service member in the U.S. Armed Forces
