Kansas State Employee Veterans' Hiring Preference

Kansas Department of Administration, Office of Personnel Services
Guaranteed interview and consideration, promotion preference, and higher retention standing in a workforce reduction

When you apply for a Kansas state job with veterans preference, you are guaranteed an interview and consideration for the position. The preference does not guarantee you the job. It also applies to promotions and gives you higher retention standing if the workforce is reduced.

How to apply

Claim the preference when you apply through the Kansas Career Portal and attach your discharge paperwork. If you are claiming for the first time you can instead mail a complete, legible copy of your DD214 to the Office of Personnel Services, 900 SW Jackson, Room 401-N, Landon State Office Building, Topeka, KS 66612-1251.

What you'll need

A complete, legible copy of your DD214 showing your enlistment and discharge dates, type of discharge and medals received. A spouse also needs the veteran's VA rating documentation, marriage certificate, or casualty or prisoner of war documentation.
