Kentucky Driver’s License Renewal for Resident Service Members Stationed Outside Kentucky

Written and road tests waived, and renewal by mail while stationed away

If you are a Kentucky resident service member or dependent stationed outside Kentucky and your driver’s license has expired, you can renew it within 90 days of returning to Kentucky without taking the written test or the road test. You can also renew a Class D licence by mail while you are still away.

How to apply

Renew in person at a Kentucky driver licensing office within 90 days of returning, or mail a completed Form TC 94-28 to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Driver Licensing, 200 Mero Street, Frankfort, KY 40622, or email KYTC.MilitaryRen@ky.gov. For help, call 502-564-1257.

What you'll need

A completed Form TC 94-28 if you are renewing by mail, your expired Kentucky licence, and your orders or military ID showing you were stationed outside Kentucky.

Eligibility

  • You are a Kentucky resident service member, or the spouse or dependent of one
  • You are or were stationed outside Kentucky
  • If you are claiming the test waiver, you renew within 90 days of returning to Kentucky
