Kentucky Military and Veteran License Plates

Kentucky offers 41 license plate designs for cars and motorcycles honoring eligible service members, veterans, retired service members and their family members. Plates can go on non-commercial vehicles with a gross weight under 10,000 pounds and can be personalized for an extra fee.

How to apply

Apply through your local county clerk, not the state. If you are not sure whether you qualify for a particular plate, call the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs at 800-572-6245 first.

What you'll need

Proof of eligibility for the specific plate, usually your DD214, military ID or VA disability documentation, plus your vehicle registration paperwork.

  • You are registering a non-commercial vehicle or motorcycle in Kentucky with a gross weight under 10,000 pounds
  • You qualify for one of the Kentucky military or veteran license plates
