You get interview preference when you apply for a Kentucky state or local government competitive classified position. The preference guarantees an interview rather than extra points, and it applies only when you are seeking an initial appointment. You do not have to have served during a war or conflict, and Reserve and National Guard members do not have to have been called to active duty or mobilized.
Claim the preference when you apply through the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet careers site, and submit the required documentation before the closing date on the job advertisement. For help, call 502-564-8030.
Your DD214 or other proof of service, or your military ID if you are still serving, plus a marriage certificate, death certificate or proof of dependency if you are claiming through a veteran. The full list is on the Kentucky veterans preference documentation requirements page.
