Kentucky Veteran and Dependent Tuition Waiver

Full tuition waiver at Kentucky state-supported two-year, four-year and vocational technical schools

Your tuition can be waived at any two-year, four-year or vocational technical school operated and funded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky if you are the spouse or child of a qualifying veteran. Private and out-of-state schools do not take part. Dependent children can use it until their 26th birthday, and there is no age limit for surviving spouses.

Complete the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs Tuition Waiver Application and follow the submission instructions on the form. For help, call 502-503-7911 or email kdva.tuitionwaiver@ky.gov.

What you'll need

The veteran’s discharge paperwork and VA disability or death documentation, proof of the veteran’s Kentucky residency, proof of your relationship to the veteran, and the other documents listed on the application.

Eligibility

  • You are the spouse, unremarried surviving spouse, child, stepchild or adopted child of a veteran, or you are the biological child of a veteran or service member with a birth defect such as spina bifida linked to military service
  • The veteran is a current Kentucky resident, or was a Kentucky resident at the time of death
  • The veteran died while serving on active duty, died as a direct result of a service-connected disability determined by the VA, is 100 percent service-connected disabled, is totally disabled from a non-service-connected cause and served during a wartime period, or died while living in Kentucky after serving during a wartime period
  • You enroll at a two-year, four-year or vocational technical school operated and funded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky
  • If you are a dependent child, you are under 26 years old
