Louisiana Civil Service Veterans' Hiring Preference

Louisiana Department of State Civil Service
Five or ten points added to a passing civil service examination score, plus retention preference in a layoff

You get five or ten points added to your final passing score on a Louisiana civil service examination. Five points go to an honorably discharged veteran who served during a wartime period declared by Congress, in a peacetime campaign or expedition for which campaign badges are authorized, or for at least 90 days after September 11, 2001 other than for training. Ten points go to an honorably discharged veteran with a VA service-connected disability rating, and to certain spouses, unremarried surviving spouses and parents. Points apply to new hires only, not promotions, and preference-eligible employees whose length of service and efficiency ratings are at least equal to other competing employees are kept on during layoffs.
