Louisiana Military Family Assistance Fund

Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA)
Up to $10,000 per claim in a 12-month period

You can get financial help of up to $10,000 per claim in a 12-month period for housing, utilities, medical services and other essential expenses when military service has caused you undue financial hardship. The fund is a payer of last resort, so you have to look elsewhere first.

How to apply

Complete the Military Family Assistance Fund application and mail it with all the supporting documents to the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, ATTN: MFA Administrator, PO Box 94095, Baton Rouge LA 70804-9095. You can also apply online, or call 225-219-3700.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or NGB22, proof of Louisiana residency, documentation of the hardship and the expenses you need covered, and evidence you sought help from other sources first.

Eligibility

  • You are a Louisiana resident
  • You are a service member in good standing in the Louisiana National Guard or the U.S. Armed Forces Reserves, or a veteran with an honorable or under honorable conditions discharge who served at least 24 months of continuous active duty other than for training, served at least 90 days on active duty and received an early or hardship discharge, has a service-connected disability and is eligible for VA compensation, or was discharged after less than 90 days of service because of a service-connected disability
  • You have looked for help from other available sources first, because the fund pays last
  • You are facing an undue financial hardship
