You get a package of state protections when you are called to military service, covering pay compensation, leave status, retirement credit, life, health and accident insurance coverage, reemployment rights after release, a ban on academic penalties, deferral of state income taxes, validation of your professional and occupational licenses, and the right to suspend or end a cell phone or wireless service contract.
There is one thing to apply for per protection rather than a single application. Give your employer, school, licensing board, insurer or wireless carrier a copy of your orders and cite the Act, and contact your Parish Veterans Service Officer if a protection is refused.
Your orders calling you to military service, and your discharge or release paperwork when your service ends.
