Louisiana Special Assessment Level Property Assessment Freeze for Service Members, Disabled Veterans and Surviving Spouses

Local Louisiana parish tax assessor
Assessed value of your home frozen

You can have the assessed value of your home frozen so that reassessments do not push it up. This freezes the assessed value only, not your tax bill, so what you owe can still change if the tax rate rises or you enlarge the living area.

How to apply

Contact your local parish tax assessor to apply. This is a parish-level filing, not a state one.

What you'll need

Proof that you own the home and live in it, your income information, and your VA rating documentation, casualty documentation or marriage certificate depending on how you qualify.

Eligibility

  • You own your home and live in it
  • Your total combined adjusted gross income as the occupying owner or owners is below the limit your parish tax assessor sets
  • You are a service member or veteran with a service-connected disability rating of 50 percent or more from the VA, the surviving spouse of such a veteran who is 45 or older or has minor children, the spouse of a service member declared missing in action or a prisoner of war for more than 90 days, or the surviving spouse of a service member killed in action
