Short and long term nursing care at five state homes

You can get short and long term nursing care at one of five state veterans homes: Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Bossier City (156 beds), Louisiana Veterans Home in Jackson (129 beds), Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings (156 beds), Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home in North Monroe (156 beds), and Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Reserve (156 beds). Each home has veterans assistance counselors, 24/7 registered nurse coverage, a full-time pharmacist and pharmacy technician, a dietician, a social worker, a memory care wing for Alzheimer’s and dementia diagnoses, and recreational activities.

How to apply

Submit an admission application to the admissions coordinator at the home you prefer. Each home takes its own applications; there is no central waiting list.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing your active duty service and honorable discharge for your most recent period of service, proof of Louisiana residency or your referral from an in-state VA medical center or LDVA counselor, and your medical information.

Eligibility

  • You served 90 days or more on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and received an honorable discharge for your most recent period of active duty, or you served less than 90 days and were discharged because of a service-connected disability
  • You are a Louisiana resident, or you are referred by an in-state VA medical center or a Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs counselor
  • You are the eligible veteran, or the spouse, surviving spouse or Gold Star parent of one
