Free Maine Hunting, Trapping and Fishing License for Disabled Veterans

Free combined hunting, trapping and fishing licence with the listed permits included

Disabled veterans get a free Maine licence to hunt, trap and fish. It includes permits for bear hunting and trapping, muzzleloader, migratory waterfowl, pheasant, spring and fall turkey, coyote night hunting, and one expanded archery antlerless and one either-sex deer. You still have to apply separately each year for antlerless deer and moose permits.

Request the licence in person or by mail at the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services Central Office, Camp Keyes, 194 Winthrop Street, Augusta ME 04333, or by email to mainebvs@maine.gov.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing an honorable discharge and your VA documentation showing a service-connected disability rating of 50 percent or more.

Eligibility

  • You were honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces or the National Guard
  • You have a service-connected disability rating of 50 percent or more from the VA
  • You are a Maine resident, or you are a nonresident whose home state grants reciprocal privileges to Maine veterans
