Maine Property Tax Exemption for Surviving Spouses, Minor Children and Widowed Parents of Veterans

Local Maine municipal tax assessor
$6,000 of property value exempt from tax

Family members of an eligible veteran can take $6,000 of value off the property tax assessment on their Maine home. It covers an unremarried surviving spouse of a veteran who was eligible for the exemption, a surviving minor child under 18, and a widowed parent aged 62 or older who has not remarried and was not divorced when the veteran’s other parent died. In every case you must be receiving a pension or compensation from the U.S. government.
