Maine Veterans' Cemetery System

Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services, Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery System
No cost plot, grave opening and closing, and perpetual care

Maine runs four veterans’ cemeteries: Northern Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Caribou, Central Maine Veterans’ Cemetery at Civic Center Drive and at Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta, and Southern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery in Springvale. The plot, opening and closing the grave and perpetual care are free to your family. You can choose a columbarium niche, in-ground burial of cremated remains, or a full casket burial with a free in-ground concrete liner. The VA provides the headstone, marker or niche cover, and family members are buried next to you or in the same plot. Maine residency is not required. Maine also has the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians Veterans Cemetery in Littleton, reachable at 207-532-4273.
