Assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care at the state veterans home

You can get assisted living, skilled nursing or memory care in secure units at the state veterans home in St. Mary’s County, which also takes eligible spouses. Services include a full range of clinical medical care, physical, occupational and speech therapy, an onsite pharmacy, hospice care, barber and beauty services, transportation to the VA medical center, an onsite veteran service officer, a mental health counselor, a social worker and case manager, recreational activities, religious services, housekeeping and meals.

Complete the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home application and send it to the home at 29449 Charlotte Hall Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Phone 301-884-8171, fax 833-671-3102.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or discharge paperwork, proof of Maryland residency, proof of age or a Social Security Administration or VA disability determination, and a marriage certificate if you are applying as a spouse.

Eligibility

  • You are a Maryland resident
  • You are at least 62 years old, or the Social Security Administration or the VA has determined you are disabled
  • You served on full-time active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces other than for training and were discharged or released under honorable conditions, you served in a reserve component and meet the legal residence requirements, or you are the spouse of an eligible veteran
