Maryland will waive the skills test part of the commercial driver’s license exam based on your military driving training and experience.

Submit the Application for Military Skills Test Waiver to the Maryland MVA, and follow the MVA procedure for converting a U.S. military license into a CDL.

What you'll need

Your military driving record and license, your DD214 if you have separated, and the completed military skills test waiver application signed by your commanding officer.

Eligibility

  • You are currently serving, or you were discharged within the last 12 months
  • You have not held more than one license, other than a military license
  • You have never had a license suspended, revoked or cancelled
  • You have no conviction for a disqualifying major offense and no more than one conviction for a disqualifying serious traffic violation, for any type of motor vehicle
  • You have no conviction for a military, state or local traffic control violation arising from a traffic accident, and no record of an at-fault accident
