Up to $13,689 for 2025-2026, capped at resident undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees

These scholarships pay tuition and other educational expenses at public institutions in the University System of Maryland, up to the annual tuition and mandatory fees of a resident undergraduate at a two or four-year school. The maximum award for 2025-2026 is $13,689, and it is not based on financial need. Undergraduate awards can be used for five years of full-time study or eight years of part-time study, or a mix; graduate awards cover full-time study of 9 or more credits a semester or part-time study of 6 to 8 credits. The awards cannot be used at University of Maryland Global Campus or University of Maryland, Baltimore.

What you'll need

Proof you are a Maryland resident, the veteran’s discharge paperwork and VA rating documentation, proof of your relationship to the veteran if you are a family member, and documentation of any VA education benefits you have used.

Eligibility

  • You are a Maryland resident
  • You are enrolled at a public institution in the University System of Maryland other than University of Maryland Global Campus or University of Maryland, Baltimore
  • You are the child, stepchild or unremarried surviving spouse of a service member who died on active duty, the child, stepchild or spouse of a veteran with a 100 percent service-connected disability, the child, stepchild or unremarried surviving spouse of someone who died as a result of the September 11, 2001 attacks, a veteran with a service-connected disability of 25 percent or more who has used or exhausted all VA education benefits, or a veteran who was a prisoner of war or declared missing in action during the Vietnam War or the child or stepchild of one
  • If you are applying as the veteran, you served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces other than for training and were discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable
