Maryland Income Tax Subtraction for Military Retired Pay

Up to $12,500 subtracted from Maryland taxable income, or up to $20,000 from age 55

You can subtract up to $12,500 of your military retired pay from your gross income before Maryland works out your tax. From age 55 the subtraction rises to $20,000.

There is nothing to file separately. Claim the subtraction on your Maryland income tax return using the resident tax booklet instructions.

Your Form 1099-R showing the retired pay, kept with your tax records.

Eligibility

  • You are filing a Maryland income tax return
  • You receive military retired pay from an active or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces
