Maryland Vehicle Inspection Waiver for Resident Service Members Stationed Outside Maryland

Maryland safety inspection waived for two years

You can title and temporarily register a used vehicle in Maryland without a Maryland safety inspection while you are stationed outside the state. The waiver lasts two years and can be renewed if you are still stationed out of state. You have to get the vehicle inspected as soon as you return to Maryland.

How to apply

Submit the Maryland temporary state inspection waiver form, VR-129, to the MVA with your titling and registration paperwork.

What you'll need

Your orders showing you are stationed outside Maryland, proof of Maryland residency, and the vehicle’s title and registration paperwork.

Eligibility

  • You are a Maryland resident service member
  • You are stationed outside Maryland
  • You are titling and registering a used vehicle in Maryland
