One-time grant for a temporary financial hardship

You can get a one-time grant to get through a temporary financial problem. Grants are commonly used for rent, mortgage, utilities, and vehicle financing or insurance, and are meant for people who will be self-reliant once the grant is paid.

What you'll need

Your DD214, documentation of the expense you need help with such as a rent or utility notice, and proof of your income and household situation.

Eligibility

  • You are a veteran, or the surviving spouse of a veteran
  • You are experiencing a temporary financial problem such as rent, mortgage, utilities, or vehicle financing or insurance
  • You will be self-reliant after receiving the grant
