Massachusetts waives tuition at a state college, university or community college for eligible veterans and active duty service members living in the state.

How to apply

Contact the financial aid office at the campus you attend or plan to attend, since each campus sets its own application requirements and deadlines. You can also call the Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance at 617-391-6070.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or current orders, proof you have lived in Massachusetts for a year, proof of citizenship or eligible noncitizen status, and confirmation that you are not in default on a student loan or owe a refund on prior aid.

Eligibility

  • You have physically lived in Massachusetts for at least one year before the academic year starts
  • You are a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen
  • You meet the Selective Service registration requirement
  • You are not in default on any federal or state student loan and do not owe a refund on financial aid you already received
  • You received a discharge under honorable conditions after at least 180 days of active duty during a non-wartime period, or after at least 90 days of active duty with one day in theater during a wartime period, or you are currently serving and are stationed and living in Massachusetts
