Massachusetts Chapter 115 Safety Net Program for Veterans and their Family Members

Your local Massachusetts Veterans Service Officer, overseen by the Executive Office of Veterans Services
Needs-based financial aid for living, medical, housing and behavioral health costs

Massachusetts pays financial aid to veterans and their dependents who have limited income. The money can go toward daily living expenses, medical costs, rent, support of dependents, preventing homelessness and behavioral health services.

How to apply

Contact your local Massachusetts Veterans Service Officer, who takes the application, or the Executive Office of Veterans Services at 600 Washington Street, 7th Floor, Boston, MA 02111, phone 617-210-5480. You can estimate what you may receive first with the Massachusetts Veteran’s Benefit Estimator.

What you'll need

Your discharge paperwork for your most recent period of service, documentation of your income and expenses, proof you live in Massachusetts, and proof of your relationship to the veteran if you are a dependent.

Eligibility

  • You live in Massachusetts
  • You have financial need
  • You are a veteran who received a discharge under honorable conditions for your most recent period of service, or the spouse, surviving spouse, child aged 18 or under, child aged 19 to 23 in high school or college, child aged 19 or over who was totally disabled before age 18, or dependent parent of one
  • The veteran served at least 90 days on active duty, has a service-connected disability that occurred on active duty or during training, received the Purple Heart, or died while serving on active duty
