Massachusetts Clause 22B Property Tax Exemption for Loss of Both Limbs or Both Eyes

$1,250 off your property tax

You get $1,250 taken off the property tax on the home you live in if you have a service-connected loss of use of both feet, both hands or both eyes. The spouse or surviving spouse of a veteran who qualifies can claim it too.

How to apply

Apply to the assessor in the Massachusetts city or town where the property is. You have to apply again every year.

What you'll need

Your discharge paperwork, VA documentation of the loss of use, proof you occupy the home as your domicile, and proof of your Massachusetts residency.

Eligibility

  • You occupy the property as your domicile on July 1 of the year you apply
  • You lived in Massachusetts for at least six months before entering the U.S. Armed Forces, or you have lived in Massachusetts for the two consecutive years immediately before filing, or you are the spouse of an eligible veteran
  • You have a service-connected loss of use of both feet, both hands or both eyes, or you are the spouse or surviving spouse of a veteran who qualifies
