Massachusetts Clause 22E Property Tax Exemption for Veterans Rated 100 Percent Disabled

$1,000 off your property tax

You get $1,000 taken off the property tax on the home you live in if you have a 100 percent disability rating from the VA. The spouse or surviving spouse of a veteran who qualifies can claim it too.

How to apply

Apply to the assessor in the Massachusetts city or town where the property is. You have to apply again every year.

What you'll need

Your discharge paperwork, your VA rating letter showing a 100 percent rating, proof you occupy the home as your domicile, and proof of your Massachusetts residency.

Eligibility

  • You occupy the property as your domicile on July 1 of the year you apply
  • You lived in Massachusetts for at least six months before entering the U.S. Armed Forces, or you have lived in Massachusetts for the two consecutive years immediately before filing, or you are the spouse of an eligible veteran
  • You have a 100 percent disability rating from the VA, or you are the spouse or surviving spouse of a veteran who does
