Service on active duty on or after September 11, 2001 earns a bonus that depends on where and how long you served. Your first tour in Iraq, Afghanistan or another imminent danger location is worth $1,000, and each later tour there is worth $500. A first continuous six months of active duty somewhere else is worth $500, and each later continuous six months in direct support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, Noble Eagle, Inherent Resolve, Freedom’s Sentinel or a successor operation is worth $250. The family of a service member who died while serving on active duty receives $2,000.
