Massachusetts offers 21 distinctive car and motorcycle plates honoring service members, veterans, retired service members and certain family members. Eligibility differs from plate to plate, so the application for each plate lists its own documentation requirements.

How to apply

Pick the plate you want on the Registry of Motor Vehicles veteran and specialty plate page, then follow that plate’s application, which is either mailed to the RMV Special Plates unit or presented at a full-service RMV location.

What you'll need

The application for the specific plate and the documentation it lists, which is usually your DD214, award citation or VA rating letter.

Eligibility

  • You are a Massachusetts resident registering a vehicle
  • You qualify for one of the veteran or military plates
